DAUGHTERS OF THE KING FOOD DRIVE 2007!

With Thanksgiving and Christmas right around the corner, those less fortunate need help!  Bring in non-perishable food items, boxed or canned, and place them in the DOK designated box in the parish hall.  All food donations will be taken to the Northwest Assistance Ministries Food Pantry for distribution! THANK YOU!

SPRING TEA on March 18, 2007 at 1pm was a huge success!

ALL ladies of the parish, INCLUDING young ladies in their TEENS or pre-teens interested in Jr. DOK, came together to enjoy an introduction luncheon/tea to the Daughters of the King!  Peggy Brast, a DOK representative and missionary, had a presentation of her latest missionary work in Honduras and talked about her upcoming mission this summer. Delicious finger foods and a variety of drinks & tea were served and enjoyed by all.

Daughters of the King, an order of prayer, service and evangelism...

The Daughters of the King is a religious order for women in the Episcopal Church, with chapters in the Roman Catholic Church, Anglican Episcopal Church, and the Lutheran ELCA Church. Each member undertakes a Rule of Life, pledging herself to a lifelong program of prayer, service and evangelism, dedicated to the spread of Christ’s Kingdom, especially among women, and the strengthening of the spiritual life of her parish. Chapters are organized within parishes, missions and institutions with the consent of the priest, chaplain or bishop, with as few as three communicant women, who serve a three-month training period in preparation for membership. Chapters may not raise money in the name of the Order.

The Order was begun in 1885 in New York City by Mrs. Margaret Franklin and in 1896, Junior Daughters began in Washington, D.C. In purpose and origin, the Order is closely allied with the Brotherhood of St. Andrew.

The emblem of the Order is a silver Greek cross, which members wear at all times. Latin works inscribed on this cross broadly translate, “With heart, mind, and spirit uphold the Cross”

The Sylvia Wells Chapter of the Daughters of the King was chartered in December 1999.

Currently we have 28 members.

Our Chapter has monthly meetings usually on the 3rd Saturday of the month. There are two Diocesan Assemblies and the All Saints Corporate Communion each year.

Other commitments of DOK are to provide meals to ill parishioners. The DOK also provides a meal during Lenten services each year and receptions after all funerals held at Holy Comforter at the families request. If you would like further information on the Daughters please contact Debbie Barrett or the church office.
